When Buddy Holly died in a plane crash (along with other entertainers of the day), a young songwriter by the name of Don McLean thought it was “the day the music died”.

He went on to compose his immortal anthem American Pie. One of the lines goes;

“Them good old boys were drinkin’ whisky & rye singin’ this’ll be the day that I die, this’ll be the day that I die…”
