ALWAYS SOMETHING THERE TO REMIND ME

Burt Bacharach

(There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me is one of those timeless songs that just about every artist has had a crack at. Ironically, it is sad lyrically, while being uptempo and bright and bubbly musically creating quite the oximoron. General music lovers however, tend to only notice if a song is happy or sad, so the tune carries this otherwise depressing lyric into places it might not have otherwise gone. It was written in the 1960s by songwriting team Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Originally recorded as a demo by Dionne Warwick in 1963, it first charted for Lou Johnson, whose version reached No. 49 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1964. Sandie Shaw took the song to No. 1 in the UK that same year, while the duo Naked Eyes had a big jangly mega produced hit with the song in the US two decades later in 1983.

The backing track above is our own version which was commissioned and created by us for a specific live show. Since our version is like no other, we have filed this song under the songwriters. This version is in the key of C.

Verse 1
I walk along the city streets you used to walk along with me
And every step I take reminds me of just how we used to be
Well, how can I forget you girl?

Chorus
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me

Verse 2
As shadows fall I pass the small cafe where we would dance at night
And I can’t help recalling how it felt to kiss and hold you tight
Well, how can I forget you girl?

Chorus
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me

Middle
I was born to love you, and I will never be free
You’ll always be a part of me… ooh oh oh oh

Verse 3
If you should find you miss the sweet and tender love we used to share
Just come back to the places where we used to go and I’ll be there
Well, how can I forget you girl?

Chorus
When there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me

Middle
I was born to love her and I will never be free
You’ll always be a part of me

Chorus/ Outro
‘Cause there is always something there to remind me
Always something there to remind me… (X8)
