One of the best ballads of all time. Released on May 8, 1970, this simple ballad belies the depth of the genius of Paul McCartney. Although both John Lennon and McCartney are credited, this is definitely a McCartney song. The above demo is a REAL Track version (real guitars and backing vocals). Enjoy!
This song was written at a time when music videos were very rare, hence there’s no ‘official’ video for the single version of the song. But watch the great live studio version below right. Very raw harmonies with no reverb or studio polish, just pure talent – and mucking about as the boys often did! Wait for John Lennon clowning around at the end!
Track Note: Our backing track (lyrics and chord chart) are all based on the official version. We are mad Beatles fans and particularly proud of this backing track, so let us know what you think!

Let It Be
The Beatles
When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
When the broken hearted people living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
For though they may be parted, there is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be
Yeah let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
BREAK / SOLO
Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.. eeeh
And when the night is cloudy there is still a light that shines on me
Shine until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music, Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be… eeeh yeah
Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah let it be
Oh there will be an answer, let it be… eeeh
Let it be, let it be, let it be, yeah let it be
For there will be an answer, let it be… eeeh
Let it be, let it be, oh let it be, yeah let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be… eeeh
